Capricorn Business & Technology Park Western Cape:

A detailed economic appraisal indicated the need for a high-tech industrial and research facility in the Western Cape. The objectives were to attract leaders in technology and industry and create an environment where sustainable business can be conducted.

HHO Africa were members of the project team responsible for the design of the project and the creation of an environment that would facilitate sustainable development.

HHO Africa carried out the design of the road and footway network and the integration of the network into the environmental planning for the project. The dune area was reshaped around a the focal point of a sinuous lake that also acts as a stormwater attenuation facility.

Among the special features of the project were :

	Clearing and shaping of the windblown sand dunes to form an attractive and rolling landscape
	Compliance with strict stormwater management criteria imposed by the local authority
	Providing road layout access to all properties while at the same time avoiding the usual unattractive grid road layout system often found in industrial development sites
	Compliance with ISO 14001 in respect of the management of waste materials, stormwater requirements, toxic emissions and ground water quality
	Recipient of the 2001 Merit Award of the Institute of Landscape Architects of South Africa

HHO Africa were responsible for the following consulting services:

	Design of all the road infrastructure for the project including external access
	Engineering design of the pathway system in collaboration with the landscape architects
	Site administration of the civil engineering contracts and adjudication of contractual claims
	Project Management of the whole development with planners, architects, contractors etc
	Contract documentation and tender report
	Negotiation of on-going civil contracts on behalf of the Client
	Construction monitoring and administration
