Mega Event Traffic Management Western Cape and South Africa:

Large sporting and other leisure events require specialised traffic management plans to ensure the comfort and convenience of the spectators and patrons.

The Newlands area of Cape Town houses both the international rugby and cricket stadia and games always produce significant congestion. The staging of the World Cup rugby tournament at Newlands in 1995 needed special measures to minimise congestion. HHO Africa played a major role in the integrated traffic plan involving rail, bus and private transport to the Newlands area. The innovative solution of using school playing fields for parking averted congestion and brought significant financial benefits to the schools. The system is now used for all rugby and cricket matches with on-going benefits for all concerned.

Following the highly successful planning for the World Cup HHO Africa devised a successful traffic and crowd management plan in Stellenbosch for the World Cross-Country Championships. Athletes and spectators were transported and accommodated with no delay and in comfort. The planning drew high praise from the International Amateur Athletics Federation.

The J&B Metropolitan Horse Race at Kenilworth in Cape Town is the premier racing event on the South African calendar. Traffic management was always problematic. Since 2000 HHO Africa have been responsible for the overall traffic and parking management plans. Congestion and delays have essentially been eliminated.
