Modderdam Road Reconstruction Western Cape South Africa:

The project comprised the construction of a new interchange on the N2 urban freeway and the reconstruction of the existing Modderdam road to dual carriageway urban arterial standards with major at-grade intersections. The work was done using different specifications imposed by the different local authorities through whose jurisdiction the road traversed. Some of the more notable features of the project were :

	Stormwater management and the design of attenuation ponds
	Accommodation of high morning and evening peak traffic in the road corridor
	Public transport lanes for buses and taxis on both carriageways
	Bridge construction over an existing dual carriageway freeway
	Extensive sub-surface drainage systems to protect the pavement layers
	Linked traffic signals at the various at grade intersections to ease traffic flows
	Extensive landscaping to the upgraded road corridor

HHO Africa were responsible for the following consulting services:

	Economic analysis of alternatives
	Geotechnical and construction materials investigations
	Final geometric design with intersections
	Pavement Design
	Bridge design
	Traffic engineering and signal design
	Landscaping to road corridor (in conjunction with Landscape Architects)

	Construction monitoring and administration
