Traffic and Transportation Engineering

With the world’s population migrating to urban areas, there is an ever-growing demand for transportation of people and goods. At HHO we believe that we need to mitigate against the negative impacts of urbanisation, such as rising levels of car use and congestion, and the associated reduction in road safety. We are committed to the facilitation of transit oriented developments, optimised transport networks and managed travel demand, which results in liveable cities.

We are recognised as specialists in the field of traffic engineering and transport planning. Our team are able to offer a full range of services in this discipline as follows:

  • Volume, speed and occupancy data surveys and analysis
  • Intersection layout and signal design
  • Freeway interchange design
  • Transportation impact assessments
  • Transportation modelling (strategic and microsimulation)
  • Transport planning studies
  • Safety audits
  • Arterial management plans
  • Conceptual planning of transport infrastructure
  • Parking management plans
  • Mega event transport plans

V&A Waterfront Development, Cape Town, South Africa

MyCiTi Bus Rapid Transit, Cape Town, South Africa

HHO undertook the conceptual planning and detailed traffic engineering signal designs of this award winning bus rapid transit project, which incorporated approximately 32 km of dedicated bus lanes through a network of more than 30 signalised intersections.

Koeberg Interchange Upgrade, Cape Town, South Africa

HHO was responsible for the conceptual design, traffic analysis and evaluation of alternative upgrade proposals that would alleviate serious and prolonged congestion experienced at this critical urban interchange, and that could be built under heavy traffic conditions.
